God Uses Everything

God uses everything, the good and the bad for His purpose. Bro. Don Howell - in one of his “one minute” messages - (he can say more in one minute than most of us can in a half hourπŸ˜‡) told of a huge flea infestation in the barracks where Corrie ten Boom and other ladies were imprisoned by the Nazis. The fleas were awful; what could they do? Then they noticed that the guards stopped coming to their barracks so often because of the fleas. They were able to have Bible study and prayer meetings! God uses everything in His plan and purpose!✝️ O Father, use us, enable us even in the “bad” times. You’re God on the mountain and in the valley, amen!

Jesus, Come Soon

Visiting and talking with three of our members who have and are experiencing major health issues, they were - despite pain - upbeat and praising God. It was an awesome worship moment for me.✝️ Life here “ain’t” perfect, but Rev. 21:4: God himself will wipe away every tear; no more death, pain nor weeping”. Oh, how we long for that moment. Jesus, come soon, and till then help us to remain true and faithful, amen.

How to Face a New Day

Several Bible passages came to my mind as I watched the horror of the nightly news: Isaiah 65:17, “I will create a new heaven and a new earth”, 1st Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!”, and “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. That’s all we need to face a new day. Amen!

The Death Zone

Ever been in the “death zone”? We all are in it.πŸ™ Death became a reality when our first parents sinned. We shrink from it because we know instinctively we were created to live. Take courage, Jesus defeated death, the grave by trusting in, believing in, and committing all to Him. We are free of the eternal “death zone”. Father, if never before, we cry out now “save us” in Jesus' name, amen.

See the Rainbow

God put a rainbow in the clouds, a sign of His covenant between Him and the earth. God put His Holy Spirit in us, His “earnest money” that no matter what He would be with us. The message this Sunday is “Safely ashore”, that despite the troubles of this life that He would bring us “safely ashore”. Look do you see the “rainbow”? Amen.

There’s a Moon Out Tonight

Oh my, what a beautiful full moon in the western sky. There’s a song from my “dj” days: “There’s a moon out tonight”. Oh there is!πŸŽ‰ Psalm 19: the Heavens declare the glory of God; the firmament the work of His hand. The creation can tell us there is a Creator God, but only His Word can tell us who He is and how to be in a relationship with Him. Read it today for yourself. The best place to start is John’s gospel; the first five verses reveal it all...amen.

Father, Lift Up Our Churches

Awesome women’s Bible conference yesterday - one step at a time - our church is resuming our ministries. Sunday school begins next week! I have been slow and cautious, asking the Father to guide us each step of the way. Father, we lift up all the churches and pastors preaching and teaching the “true gospel”: that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but by Him, amen.

When the Roof Falls In

Roof fell in yesterday, a son visiting his mother was killed in traffic accident on the way home, another member fell and broke her leg just above a recent knee replacement, and another had an uncle pass away.πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™ I’m still working on that message “Safely Ashore”. The boat we’re sailing on was launched over two thousand years ago. The hull is bent and battered; she’s sailing on life’s troubled sea. I just heard the Captain say “Better get on board, she may never sail this way again”! Father, thank You that we’re on board the Old Ship of Zion, You will take us “safely ashore”. Amen.

Are You Prepared?

Received a letter from a company selling burial insurance, the gist of the letter was “had we made preparation for our death?” I’m writing them back - yes! We asked the Lord Jesus Christ into our lives...me lying on an army bunk and reading from a little Gideon Bible, my wife as a young girl, she said she floated down the aisle. Yes, we’re prepared.πŸ™ We want everyone to be prepared. The Holy Spirit is seeking you. Will you let Him in? Amen.

Busy, busy!

Missed meteor shower this morning, I was too busy to look up.πŸ˜• Busy, busy! Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God!” Father, please help us slow down, spend some time one on one with You. Nothing is as important as this.πŸ™ It is from You that we receive our hope, our help, our deliverance. Thank You! I’m here, and I’m listening. Amen.

Safely Ashore

Working on a new message from Acts 27 where Paul was shipwrecked. The last verse reads: ”And so it was that all escaped safely to land”.  Safely Ashore is the title. Pray, it’s in early stages.πŸ˜• Storms are part of our lives. You may be in one right now, but don’t despair. God had a plan for Paul, and He has one for us.πŸ™ Trust Him, call on Him, and listen to Him. At the end of the way, no matter how hard the storm, He will bring you Safely Ashore,πŸ™amen.

Our Men Are Back to Serve

1st Brotherhood meeting in over a year last night - the pancakes were good;, the program was good also, but the most important thing  - we were back.πŸŽ‰πŸ™ The old saying says, “you don’t miss the water until the well runs dry!” Our men are back, to worship, to serve.πŸ™ Father, thank You for opening the doors to worship and service again, help us all to walk through them to where You want us to be, amen.

Lord, Help Those in Sorrow

We all know about sorrow. We’ve experienced it at four funerals in the past week (I preached two of them). I saw familes in deep sorrow over the departure of their loved ones; my heart was wrenched for them. All I could do was cry out, “Lord! Please help them.” Father, the days are so hard, we long for Your soon return, please come and take your children home, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Come and Make Memories

The sweet shrubs that grow next to the 1832 log cabin on our farm (Our family lived in it till 1919 and then built the big house.) are native to North Carolina where they came from. They planted them when they arrived. Guess what? They’re still growing (Mama would break one off and “switch” me with it.πŸ˜•) Sing with me: ”Precious Memories how they linger”. The most precious thing are the memories of worship in the country church. Would you come and make some memories today? Amen.

Holy Spirit, Break the Hardest Heart

Doing funeral prep, I asked did your husband have a relationship with Christ? Through her tears she replied, “Oh yes, three years ago we knelt in the dining room and cried out, “Lord Jesus, save us!” Oh my, I had tears.πŸ™ Sounds like the thief who cried out, “Lord, remember me”. Father, today we pray that Your Holy Spirit can break through the hardest heart, in Jesus’ Name, amen.
